Unyo Maru No.3 ( Japan): World War II: The cargo ship was torpedoed and sunk in the East China Sea by USS Plunger ( United States Navy).^[2]

Christopher Newport ( United States): World War II: Convoy PQ 17: The cargo ship was torpedoed and sunk in the Barents Sea by U-457 ( Kriegsmarine).^[3]
William Hooper ( United States): World War II: Convoy PQ17: The cargo ship was torpedoed and sunk in the Barents Sea by U-334 ( United States Navy).^[4]
Nenohi ( Imperial Japanese Navy): World War II: The Hatsuharu-class destroyer was torpedoed and sunk in the Pacific Ocean south east of Attu Island, Alaska, United States () by USS Triton ( United States Navy) with the loss of 188 of her 226 crew. Survivors were rescued by Inazuma ( Imperial Japanese Navy).

Anna ( Germany): World War II: The coaster was torpedoed and sunk in the Baltic Sea west of Klaipėda, Latvia by SC-320 ( Soviet Navy).^[5]
Arare ( Imperial Japanese Navy): World War II: The Asashio-class destroyer was torpedoed and sunk in the Pacific Ocean east of Kiska Harbor, Alaska, United States by USS Growler ( United States Navy) with the loss of 104 of her 146 crew.
Bolton Castle ( United Kingdom): World War II: Convoy PQ 17: The cargo ship was bombed and sunk in the Barents Sea by Luftwaffe aircraft.^[6]
Carlton ( United States): World War II: Convoy PQ 17: The cargo ship was torpedoed and sunk in the Barents Sea by U-88 ( Kriegsmarine.^[7]
Daniel Morgan ( United States): World War II: Convoy PQ 17: The cargo ship was torpedoed and sunk in the Barents Sea by U-88 ( Kriegsmarine).^[8]
Empire Byron ( United Kingdom): World War II: Convoy PQ 17: The cargo ship was torpedoed and sunk in the Barents Sea by U-703 ( United States Navy) with the loss of seven of the 69 people on board.
Earlston ( United Kingdom): World War II: Convoy PQ 17: The cargo ship was torpedoed and sunk in the Barents Sea by U-334 ( Kriegsmarine).^[9]
Fairfield City ( United States): World War II: Convoy PQ 17: The cargo ship was bombed and sunk in the Barents Sea by Luftwaffe aircraft.^[6]

Navarino ( United Kingdom): World War II: Convoy PQ 17: The cargo ship was bombed and sunk in the Barents Sea by Luftwaffe aircraft.^[6]
Paulus Potter ( Netherlands): World War II: convoy PQ 17: The cargo ship was bombed and damaged in the Barents Sea west of Novaya Zemlya, Soviet Union by Luftwaffe aircraft and was abandoned. She was torpedoed and sunk on 13 July by U-255 ( Kriegsmarine).^[12]
Peter Kerr ( United States): World War II: Convoy PQ 17: The cargo ship was bombed and sunk in the Barents Sea by Luftwaffe aircraft.^[6]
River Afton (): World War II: Convoy PQ 17: The cargo ship was torpedoed and sunk in the Barents Sea by U-703 ( Kriegsmarine with the loss of 26 of the 64 people on board.
Washington ( United States): World War II: The cargo ship was bombed and sunk in the Barents Sea by Luftwaffe aircraft.^[6]
Zaafaran ( United Kingdom): World War II: Convoy PQ17: The convoy rescue ship was bombed and sunk in the Barents Sea by Luftwaffe aircraft.^[6]

Avila Star ( United Kingdom): World War II: The ocean liner was torpedoed and sunk in the Atlantic Ocean north east of the Azores, Portugal by U-201 ( Kriegsmarine) with the loss of 62 of the 196 people on board.^[13]
Shinsho Maru ( Imperial Japanese Navy): World War II: The tender was torpedoed and sunk in the Pacific Ocean between Midway Atoll and Wotje Atoll by USS Thresher ( United States Navy).^[14]

Alcoa Ranger ( USA): World War II: Convoy PQ 17: The cargo ship was torpedoed and sunk in the Barents Sea by U-255 ( Kriegsmarine).^[15]
RFA Aldersdale ( Royal Fleet Auxiliary): World War II: Convoy PQ 17: The fleet oiler was torpedoed and sunk in the Barents Sea by U-457 ( Kriegsmarine having been damaged two days earlier by Luftwaffe aircraft and abandoned.

9 July

Empire Explorer ( United Kingdom): World War II: The cargo ship was torpedoed and sunk in the Caribbean Sea off Grenada ( by U-575 ( Kriegsmarine) with the loss of three of her 78 crew.
HMT Manor ( Royal Navy): World War II: Convoy WP 183: The naval trawler was torpedoed and sunk in the English Channel off Devon by S-67 ( Kriegsmarine with the loss of 29 of her 30 crew.^[5]^[16]
Margareta ( Sweden): World War II: The cargo ship was torpedoed and sunk in the Baltic Sea by S-7 ( Soviet Navy).^[17]
